That White Stuff They Call - Snow
Have you ever seen snow before? Well having lived in Florida all my life I’ve waited 15 years to see that white stuff they call snow and let’s just say my first experience wasn’t all that wonderful.
Winter break started the 18th and I was up way before the crack of dawn (4 o’clock). Now I’m a person who gets up at 6 on most mornings and will sleep until noon as long as my early rising, bothersome sister doesn’t wake me up. So yeah, I had to wake up pretty early. If you’re wondering why I had to get up oh-so early it’s because every Christmas my family packs up our big blue mini van (yes, I ride in a mini van, a blue one!) and we start our 12 hour long journey to the mountains of Tennessee. Oh! and did I tell you, I’m stuck in the back of the car with two small Scottish terriers (Misty and Mac), two fat cats (Zorro and Zack), and my sister who for some reason always has her feet near me (I’m not very fond of feet). So in the end the drive up there just about makes me go insane.
When we finally arrive it’s snowing! Having never seen snow before I was excited to get to our house on the top of the Tennessee mountains. Little did I know that we would not be making it up to the top of the mountain that night. It was about 8 at night, it was dark, and our mini van was not going to make it up the mountain. We were stuck at the bottom of the mountain debating on what to do. We really only had two choices though, 1: sleep in the mini van or 2: hike up the mountain (keep in mind it’s still snowing outside). If I were the final decision maker in the family we would have for sure gone with choice #1, but of course the rest of the family opted for #2.
Having to walk up a snow covered mountain didn’t really appeal to me in the first place and on top of that I had to carry my fat cats up in a cat carrier that had no door to hold them in (crazy, I know). I started the trudge up the mountain as soon as I was able to find some shoes that actually covered my feet (like I said I came from Florida, so I was wearing sandals). The hike was exhausting and the cats apparently didn’t understand that I was trying to help them because they would not stay in the carrier. The snow kept falling making the amount on the ground grow, making it harder to walk without slipping and since it was dark outside I was unable to really tell where I was walking so I was prepared to go sliding off the side of the mountain at any moment. We finally made it to the top of the mountain (after about a 30min hike) and I was exhausted with a capital “E.”
As I sit here writing this my cat lays next to me purring, he’s glad to be out of the snow as is I am. I’m glad to report that the cats made it up the mountain safely without getting out of the carrier (….okay, i caught them before they ran away) and also that the dogs had no problem at all (Lucky them) they made it up the mountain about 20 minutes before I did. So, in the end I would be okay if I don’t see snow for a while (or never again) I had my share of “fun in the snow” and it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be(:
